What Is Ammonia Free Hair Colour?
Ammonia is a chemical compound commonly used in hair colour products. It's an alkaline chemical that’s used in oxidative colour to raise the pH level of your hair and open the cuticle. It is not needed in all formulas and is most often found in permanent hair colour & demi-permanent hair colour. Both semi-permanent and temporary hair colours are designed to only coat the surface of the hair shaft rather than work inside strands, which means ammonia is not needed.
Ammonia-free colour is, simply, hair colour that contains no ammonia. Ammonia-free formulas are often gentler on the hair & scalp, reducing the risk of irritation and damage. They are ideal for those with sensitive scalps or who are looking for a gentler approach to colouring.
The downsides of ammonia free hair colour is they can be less intence as they do not penetrate as deeply in to the cuticle of the hair which can result in less vibrancy. They also do not last as long as hair colour with ammonia so may require more frequent touch-ups. However, if you are looking for low commitment, softer regrowth and a more natural look than this may be just what you need.
What Are The Benefits Of Hair Colour With Ammonia
Ammonia-based hair colours are more durable and last for more washes before fading then ammoia free colour products can. They can also offer intensity dues to the fact that the colour molecules penetrate deeper into the hair shaft. Another benefit is that they are effective in covering grey hair, providing a flawless finish.
Permanent hair colours typically last for 6-12 weeks. To make it last even longer wash your locks with a colour safe shampoo. Avoid washing your hair with very hot water as this can stress the hair and cause it to dry out. Lastly, remeber hair is like a sponge, if you swim make sure to wear a swimming cap to help stop any colour-fading effects from chlorine.
